America SCORES Chicago Announces Details For Signature Red Carpet Poetry SLAM At Adler Planetarium

CHICAGO, IL (January 13, 2022) -- America SCORES Chicago has announced the details of its signature event, Red Carpet Poetry SLAM (RCPS), set for Thursday, April 7 from 6:30 - 10 p.m. at the Adler Planetarium. Serving as SCORES’ largest fundraising event held annually since 2008, Red Carpet Poetry SLAM generates proceeds for the organization's sports-based youth development programs.

Red Carpet Poetry SLAM is an evening designed to celebrate, advocate, and highlight the hard work and talent of SCORES’ poet-athletes. Selected students perform poetry to a crowd of professionals, donors, poetry enthusiasts, volunteers, coaches, community leaders, and their families. The performers are selected by judges at SCORES’ Community SLAM, held at the conclusion of the fall season, and represent schools throughout South and West Chicago communities. In addition to poetry performances, guests enjoy food and cocktails while bidding on live and silent auction packages.

“Every year that I get to hear from our poet-athletes at the Red Carpet SLAM, I find myself feeling more hopeful,” said Amy Mummery, America SCORES Chicago’s Executive Director. “Their hearts and minds are so full of beauty and brilliance and there's nothing like the smile of triumph on a poet-athlete's face as they take in their applause after performing their poem to perfection.”

The event is made even more special this year by its unique location: Adler Planetarium. Poet-athletes will perform in the immersive Grainger Sky Theatre, and guests will have an out-of-this-world experience as they explore the Planetarium throughout the night, including the Clark Family Welcome Gallery, Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Solarium, and Nancy A. Petrovich Skyline Terrace, while enjoying the spectacular view of Chicago’s skyline.

“I can't imagine a more fitting stage than the Sky Theatre at the Adler Planetarium for us to celebrate the voices of our poet-athletes,” said Mummery on the event’s new location. “And I can't imagine any place that I'd rather be on April 7th - the power of poetry will be on full display and the sky's the limit!”

More than 300 guests are expected to attend this year’s event with 100-percent of the proceeds raised benefitting SCORES’ programs. There are a number of sponsorship opportunities for interested organizations. Past sponsors include Chicago Red Stars, William Blair, Societe Generale, Chicago Cubs, White Sox, Moelis & Co, Chicago Bulls, Kirkland & Ellis, Elephant & Castle, Boka Restaurant Group, and Mike & Dorothy Vandra Foundation.

Red Carpet Poetry SLAM will be held the evening of April 7 with a cocktail hour starting at 6:30 p.m.. Interested organizations and individuals can go to chicagoscores.org/red-carpet-poetry-slam for more information and are encouraged to contact Ethan Armstrong at ejarmstrong@chicagoscores.org with additional questions.

America SCORES Chicago and the Adler Planetarium’s priority is to provide a safe environment for this event and are following all City of Chicago COVID guidelines, including mask and vaccination requirements.
