Poet-athletes grades K - 8 are the life of the Chicago SCORES program. We use this special term to encompass the wide range of strengths and identities our youth participants bring to every practice, Game Day, and event. A poet-athlete not only engages with the sport of soccer and art of poetry, but also positively engages our world through their embodiment of the three SCORES values: teamwork, leadership, and commitment.

Soccer Program Attributes
All of the Chicago SCORES soccer activities help to increase students' physical fitness; improve students' conflict resolution skills; and promote the values of healthy eating and regular exercise in maintaining good health. The soccer curriculum incorporates nutrition/healthy living lessons and challenge games designed using the teamwork-focused and aerobically-intensive sport of soccer to emphasize Chicago SCORES' core values of teamwork, leadership and commitment.
Creative Writing Program Attributes
Chicago SCORES uses poetry, creative expression, hip hop and presentation as tools for building literacy skills and classroom participation in communities with starkly under-performing schools. Bringing the team spirit developed on the soccer field into the classroom, the twice-weekly writing workshops develop student voice, encourage creativity, and adhere to the four touchstones of language acquisition— reading, writing, speaking and listening.
