BIG WIN FOR SPORT BASED YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS IN ILLINOIS

America SCORES Chicago is thrilled by the news that the State of Illinois has created its first-ever funding program established specifically for organizations that use sport as a tool for youth development. The resulting legislation is the byproduct of Chicago's Comeback campaign, led by Laureus USA’s Sport for Good Chicago Leadership Council and Coalition.

Through the 2023 state budget process, Laureus USA was appropriated $5 million dollars to create a grant program to ‘Increase access to and equity of youth-development based sports initiatives.’ This initiative will have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of young people throughout Chicago and the state of Illinois, including SCORES poet-athletes, and was sponsored by Senator Cristina Pacione-Zayas and Representative Kam Buckner.

THINGS I LOVE

I Love Moon Muffin,
It’s like a pie
When I eat it I begin to fly
When I am soaring in the sky
I see Food Planet up up high
There is one planet that I want to see
It’s Moon Muffin - It’s made for me
I Love my Family, they are so smart
They help me play my part
It can be hard to follow your dreams
But Homework makes it easier than it seems
Homework comes from in and out of school
I love it, it’s like swimming in a pool
School is neat and doesn’t smell like feet
The advice from my teachers keeps me on beat
I have gym so I can stay in shape
After that, I have math to calculate
Now, you know, things that I love
Family, School and nothing above
